Model Showcase: Aquaman (By Knight Models)
My best friend is a massive fan of DC Comic’s Aquaman. Having exhausted quite a lot of other Aquaman gifts, and not really following or knowing where the comics are up to, I needed something else. So, I decided to paint Knight Models Aqauman for a Christmas Present:
Normally I start with a black undercoat, but I wanted this model to be brighter, like the comics (No Jason Mamoa here!). I used a few image searches, to base the colours upon. I airbrushed a Vallejo White Primer and then built up from there. Starting with Citadel Averland Sunset for the yellow, then Citadel Caliban Green for the green. I then added a coat of Citadel Yriel Yellow on top of the yellow:
I then gave the model a gloss varnish, so that I could use washes to fill the recesses and leave the main colours showing through. This would be easier than painting the individual yellow scales on his top.
To do this I used Citadel Fuegan Orange for the yellow, and Citadel Biel-Tan Green for the green. I then blended up the green mixing various stages of Citadel Caliban Green with Citadel Kabalite Green.
To do the face, I used the recipe that I used for Roboute Guilliman during our Primarch Challenge, which you can find by clicking here.
The gold was a basecoat of Citadel Retributor Gold, with a shade of Citadel Reikland Fleshade, then layers of Citadel Liberator Gold and Citadel Stormhost Silver. The hair was Averland Sunset again, with a wash of Reikland Fleshade, then a highlight of Yriel Yellow.
Finally, the base was basecoated in Tamiya Flat Earth, then drybrushed Citadel Baneblade Brown, then Citadel Karak Stone, Then add 20% White and drybrush again. I gave it a gloss varnish, then washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade. I then represented chips to the stone by sponging on Citadel Stormvermin Fur, and finished by supergluing a couple of Army Painter Grass Tufts.
