How to: Paint Dark Angels Tactical Squad (Purity Seals Parchment)
Hello and welcome to the continuation of my posts on how to paint Warhammer 40,000 Dark Angels. If you haven’t been keeping up, you can read the first post here.
This post will concentrate on how to paint the oath paper parchment parts of purity seals. This is the same method I use for all my Space Marine models. The red parts are demonstrated in another post, available here.
The first thing to do is to basecoat the purity seals with Citadel Rakarth flesh. As always make sure to use thin coats of the paint so that the coverage is not uneven. This will help the shading:
The next stage is to apply a thinned wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade. This is so that it runs into the recesses of the parchment:
The third stage is to revisit the Rakarth Flesh. This time, just paint it onto the peaks of the folds in the parchment. This way it will form a kind of edge highlight:
Finally apply an even fine highlight of Pallid Wych Flesh. Apply this as a thin line as a top highlight on the very fine points of the Rakarth Flesh:
As I said, you can use this method for all Space Marine purity seals. I like to keep it consistent from one model to another, one army to another army.

Also, the link to the “red” post ends up a 404.
Again, thanks for the tutorial. I’m just getting started with painting minis and I followed your steps and ended with a finished job I really liked!
Cheers Aleister, I’ll get that link checked! Apologies, I thought I’d replied some time ago, but apparently not! 🙂
