Part one of this tutorial was posted a few weeks ago, and I thought it was about time I wrote the next part to get the enforcers finished off. If you’re looking for a Subjugator tutorial there’s a video on our Youtube Channel.
The Judge’s helms have a lot of colours and features I’ve tried to carry over, and one of these is the red stripe that goes around the front. It was a really simple technique to follow. Initially Citadel Mephiston Red, shaded with Citadel Druchii Violet before reapplying the Mephiston Red. The only thing left to do was apply a highlight of Mephiston Red with a little Citadel Fire Dragon Bright added.
I wanted the eye lenses to look like they were glowing a really light blue without adding any glow around the face mask and surrounding area. Although it can look good I find it’s often overdone and for the tabletop not really necessary. I started with a layer of Citadel Ahriman Blue, shaded with Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade, before reapplying the Ahriman Blue.
To get the glowing effect I added white to the Ahriman Blue, and applied that in in a crescent to around the front third of the lens. I then added more white and added this to around the front sixth of the lens before finally adding a tiny spot of white to the front-top of each lens.
The enforcer’s armour plates are held in place with a lot of straps. These were painted with Vallejo Olive Drab, which is a great colour for strapping of this kind, and reminds me of pretty much every military strap I’ve come across. After being shaded with Citadel Athonan Camoshade, I then reapplied the Olive Drab, leaving the shade in the recesses.
You can add a highlight here if you want – something I did on the Subjugator video – by adding a little white to the Olive Drab and highlighting the top edge of each strap.
The chest and back armour was very simple to paint in this style. Adding the base colour of Black all over, I then gave a general highlight of Vallejo German Grey to the areas of armour that would be catching the most light, before adding thin lines of Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey.
I wanted the cloth of the enforcer’s smock to look like the Judge’s uniform, where it’s generally black but with dark blue highlights. For this I started with a Black base coat before adding some Citadel Caledor Sky to the Black. This ever so slightly lightened the Black, and gave the merest hint of Blue. I applied this to about 90% of the smock, leaving plain Black in all of the recesses.
Next then I added more Caledor Sky to all of the raised areas on the smock, before adding some more Caledor Sky for a final highlight on the highest edges, giving a nice finish to the smock, leaving it with the darkness still there, but with the blue overtone to it.
If you’ve made it this far, then thanks for reading. I’ll be posting up some different parts for the Subjugators in the coming weeks, where we’ll look at the shields and some of the additional armour.
If you are able to do so, we’d really appreciate your support. You can buy us a coffee here.
You’re by no means obliged, we want our tutorials to be free for anyone who wants to use them, but any support is greatly appreciated.
